Overwhelmed by Too Much to Do and Not Enough Time?
Can’t Find Things When You Need Them?

If that’s you, you’re not alone. Lots of people find themselves in that situation these days. With all of the activities and responsibilities of our hectic lives there’s just so much to manage these days.  It’s easy for possessions and paperwork to become disorganized to the point it’s hard to get anything done, let alone have a calm, peaceful space to work or live in.

Maybe you’ve thought about getting organized hundreds of times but…. it just seems too overwhelming to try to accomplish on your own…….  you’re always too busy with something else to get to it…. you don’t know where to start, or…… you don’t know how you can possibly keep and organize the things you need in the space you have.

The good news is that you don’t have to continue working and living that way. You may just need a little help from a Professional Organizer to get systems set up that will help you save time and energy so your environment and your possessions don’t run you. If you long to be more “in control” and less stressed out, the right Professional Organizer can be your “coach” who takes you “by the hand” and leads you to that kind of life.

What to Look for in a Professional Organizer

You should look for someone you can trust in your home, someone you can work with, who will listen to how to live and work, an organizer who will treat you with respect and confidentiality. That’s why I want you to get to know me from the information in this website --- so you can determine if I’m the right organizer for you.

Here’s My Story …… as told by someone who knows me well  --- My Mom

……….A letter from Christine’s mom

My Daughter is a patient, tactful, Organizing Genius and Can Make Your Home & Life More Peaceful & Less Stressful !

Dear Friend:

I am delighted my daughter has grown up to be a fine young lady, a recent college graduate and she decided some time ago to start an “Organizing” business to help people unstress their lives…which leads me to the reason I’m writing this………

You see, in today’s fast paced world the woman of the house (I’m not sexist but…Let’s face it – in most cases the woman is in charge of running the household – even if she has a full time job outside the home) has so many things to keep track of and many family occasions (such as moving into a new home) may be fun and exciting, however it is also stressful when everyone goes to “Mom” to ask “Where is my so and so?”

Having an expert organizer to help get things set up in systems that work for your family can be a wonderful treat for you. Even for an organized person, it’s nice to have an experts fresh ideas and help in getting things set up faster and with a system that will work long after the organizer leaves.

If you have ever watched some of those organizing shows on TV you know that many times the woman of the house will actually cry with joyful tears about how much improved her home life is ……including her relationship with her spouse or significant other, and her kids…. now that she and her family members aren’t fighting about not being able to function because they can’t find things.

These experiences can be truly life changing. I even personally know one couple, where the disorganization put a tremendous strain on the marriage to the point where the husband brought up the possibility of divorce because he was so frustrated with the chaos. So getting organized can be more important than you might first think.

Just imagine how you will feel, after getting organized, when you have peace and joy and less stress between family members --- that all of you can enjoy every day when you come home.

Here’s How Christine Turned My Mess Into an “Organized Delight”

I personally have experienced this peaceful and joyful feeling after my daughter helped me get several areas of my home organized. You see, after her college roommate moved to Texas, she decided to move back home for her last semester at OU-- since she just had a few hours to complete and the commute was only 30 minutes or so.

When she moved back I was impressed when she tactfully began to work on me to get various parts of my house more organized. It was like she was driven to do this when she wasn’t in class or studying. I was amazed that she treated organizing as a new form of entertainment and satisfaction. She became a faithful viewer of daily organizing shows on cable TV, having me tape them when she wasn’t home so she could watch them later.  She started picking up organizing books to read as well.

Christy (that’s what I’ve called her since she was little – even though she’s grown up now and wants to be known as Christine) even worked for another organizer as an employee to make sure she really wanted to do that kind of work before she did her first organizing job on her own. In other words, she studied many organizers’ styles and tips to learn the latest techniques for turning a mess into a harmonious, usable space that makes you feel good to be in.

You Have Probably Seen a Homeowner Like Myself Who Felt Overwhelmed With the Task of Cleaning Out Lots of Years of Clutter

In my house, Christy started out with small areas and then worked up to the huge job of organizing my home office – which was something I knew needed major help with – but it wasn’t something I wanted to do. To be honest, this room was a total disaster with several family members to blame…. I love to work on marketing projects (I’m in charge of the marketing for my husband’s law office) but hate to do filing, and my husband and son had collected various old computers, printers, electronic equipment and parts we just ignored.  We never bothered to get rid of old books and software for equipment we no longer owned.

My husband had lots of really old files from his law practice that needed to be shredded –but we couldn’t quite get around to it--- because that would have been too time-consuming to do with our home shredder—so the files were stacked in piles on the floor. The closets were dangerous to open – as things were stacked on top of each other and you never knew what would fall on you. Our office supply storage system wasn’t working. We had lots of supplies but couldn’t find the particular thing we needed so it was easier to go out and buy another one than find the item we were looking for. It was a real mess!

Isn’t Organizing Something You Can Do For Yourself?
After All, it isn’t Rocket Science

Of course, organizing is not brain surgery and most people, if they weren’t already naturally organized, if they decided they wanted to, could go study a bunch of organizing books and TV shows to figure out how to do it on their own. But many people are just too busy –especially the hard working people with multiple “balls in the air” to manage… they don’t want to add more things to learn to do, and can’t face the task without some outside, objective & fresh perspective. I felt that way about my home office. I was too busy studying marketing, coming up with marketing plans and implementing them to stop to get organized.

Many People Could Really Benefit From a Patient,
Persistent “Organizing” Coach

Without Christine’s gentle yet persistent nudging I don’t think I would have yet gotten around to getting this room organized. She was able to tactfully get me to see how so much of the stuff we were keeping was no longer needed, and she did it in such a way to make me laugh at how silly it was to hang on to it. Now that it’s done, I can tell you I don’t always close the door like I used to because I was embarrassed for company to see my home office/ guestroom. I’m also much more efficient because I don’t have to dig through piles and piles of files and supplies to find what I need.

Now, my husband, son and daughter don’t complain about tripping over stuff or not having any workspace when they come in to use one of the computers. My teenage son also brings his friends in there when they come over to look at the Internet to check out the movie showings and to hang out.  Before it was organized, there wasn’t any room for them to sit and be comfortable.

In the process of organizing, we got rid of what seemed like tons of trashbins full of stuff, gave away lots of old equipment to charity, set up a better filing system for current and long term files, such as tax records, & my husband’s closed legal files. Christine also helped me convert one of the clothes closets in that room to a supply closet, with everything visible, organized and labeled.

I can now go in that room with a feeling of peace and joy and really be able to focus and concentrate on getting things done. I’m not saying I’m perfectly organized now—because I still don’t like to file and I have to periodically stop working to spend time filing and cleaning out files,  (plus we still have other areas of the house my daughter wants us to work on) but things are so much more manageable. I really enjoy being in my office instead of dreading it.

No Need to Worry about Being Treated Disrespectfully

Plus, I was impressed that she was able to balance the parent/child relationship tactfully so as to not be critical, judgmental or demeaning. The fact that she could get her father, who is definitely a Type A personality, control-freak, and pack-rat to get rid of even some of his stuff (when he refused to do it for me) was a testament to her skill in diplomacy. I believe if she can handle that delicate situation she is certainly suited to work with homeowners in a courteous, caring and respectful manner – taking their unique situations into consideration--- to develop an organized system that will be tailored to their needs. Unlike some of the TV organizing shows you may have seen, Christine would never “emotionally beat up” her clients and make them cry.

What About Your Security and Safety?

Relating to the first concern of security, Christine is a clean-cut, college graduate with good values. She is the kind of person you won’t be afraid to have in your home.

With the exception of her college years, she has lived in the same city her whole life. Her dad is a lawyer and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves and I was a banker for 30 years before I left to handle the marketing for his law practice--- so she has had a pretty conservative upbringing.  She was always a good student, and never got into any trouble with things like drugs or hanging out with the wrong crowd.

The Character of the People You Hire in Your Home Is Important

Another thing about Christy is that she has a strong work ethic, and strong Christian faith. She even raised money to go on a mission trip to help poor kids in Honduras during one summer break in college. She does have a social life and friends, but she isn’t one of those young people who go out to clubs every night. She’s not a “Paris Hilton” kind of party animal.  She majored in Philosophy with a minor in religious studies, which means that she is really good at understanding, appreciating and respecting others and their ideas …. and has strong Christian ethics of right and wrong ---things that are key elements in working with other people.

If You’ve Ever Had a Contractor Not Show Up When Expected or Not Perform the Job…. You Know How Frustrating Undependable Service Providers Can Be

To address the second concern of having a dependable, reliable contractor to do business with….. during high school and college breaks, Christy had several jobs such as working for Target, Starbucks, Frontier City, as a wait person in a restaurant, and doing office work . She has always been a dependable, reliable employee, who came to work when expected, on time, learned her job and new things very quickly, and got along with customers and other employees.  Here’s what her last employer says about her:

“Since we build new and remake old swimming pools and our clients and potential clients are entrusting us with a significant investment in their homes, we can’t allow our phone to be answered by “just anyone”. Every call is very important to us and we have to have someone reliable, dependable and courteous. I have felt very comfortable knowing that Christine was the first contact with potential clients. She has been very dependable and reliable. She is a delightful young woman and I have enjoyed having her work for me.” --- Veronica Barritt, owner, Hydra Pools

Furthermore, in my 30 years of work experience with entry level up to management level employees and business owners I know that she is blessed with a “steel trap” for a mind. Generally, you can explain something to her only once or maybe occasionally twice at most, and she “gets it” and remembers it the next time without having to be reminded again. She thinks that is ordinary…something everyone does… but I know it is not common. Most people need to hear something much more than once, in fact, they need to hear it repeatedly in order to remember it (including me).

You’re Probably thinking ….Christine has to have some Weakness

OK, I know I’m her mom and prejudiced, but who better could know her strengths and weaknesses. And yes, I know she is human and not perfect.  You see…. because of her youth, although she is internally very enthusiastic about organizing, I believe she is somewhat soft-spoken about it. I know with age and experience she’ll become less soft-spoken. However, this humility also makes her a patient, understanding and respectful Organizer.

Lastly, this leads me to the question of whether the value is worth the cost for you.

Paying Someone to Help You Get Organized is an Investment in Your Health, Sanity, and Family Life

If you’re not familiar with organizing services you might not know that they typically range from $25 to $70 an hour and when you compare it to the cost of say, having a plumber come fix a dripping faucet for $80.00 an hour….. just think how much more the smooth running of a household and improved family relationships will have a long term positive effect on lives.

What’s more, the cost is less than other skilled, home maintenance people charge such as electricians, heating and air repairmen, and less than an interior decorator, or home stager. So when you think about it, the cost of organizing is a bargain when you realize the value of a peaceful, happy home.

If a disorganized space causes you stress every time you enter-- that can be bad for your health---- since we now know most health problems are caused by stress.

And paying for a few hours of organizing can be much less expensive than marital counseling or the extreme cases of a devastating divorce. So don’t put off making the call that can be your first step in gaining peace and control in your life.

    Sincerely,

Susan Geary, Mom of Christine Geary
